Their time in Senglea coming to an end, the children needed to return to Birgu. A kind-hearted fisherman, moved by their keen interest and strange attire, offered them a ride back. On the boat trip, they marvelled at the close-knit histories of the Maltese towns, feeling a deeper connection to their homeland.
The fisherman dropped them off at a small dock he knew of, with its own secret sally-port entry, wishing them well on their adventure through the tunnels.
