As Marija, Pawlu, and Isaac wandered the ancient streets of Senglea, their adventure took an unexpected turn. A sudden, fierce storm swept over the city, catching them off guard. With the rain pouring down and thunder echoing through the streets, they rushed to find shelter, eventually finding refuge in an old, forgotten chapel tucked away from the main paths. Inside, they watched as the storm raged outside, the thunder sounding louder than anything they ever heard.
The storm seemed to last an eternity, but when it finally passed, and they stepped out from their shelter, the world outside had changed. The ancient streets of Senglea were destroyed, all the houses just piles of rubble, fallen into the roads. All that noise hadn’t been thunder at all but enemy bombs raining down on Senglea during World War Two! The kids had to climb over piles of stones to get out of Senglea, seeing injured people splattered with blood, and English soldiers rescuing others. Women were trying to shift big blocks in order to save their few belongings from under the debris.
The shock of all this brought their journey to a sudden end, leaving them wondering about all the stories of Senglea they had yet to uncover. The streets they had walked, the hidden corners they had discovered, and the echoes of history they had felt were now distant memories, which echoed the wartime stories their grandparents used to relate.
Despite returning to their everyday routines, the sense of adventure never quite left them. There was always a part of them that longed to go back, to explore all that they had missed. The storm had given them a glimpse into Senglea’s past, leaving them wishing to delve deeper into the history and secrets of the town.
Their experience in Senglea became a bitter-sweet memory, a reminder of the adventure that had been cut short and of the endless possibilities that lay hidden in the folds of history. Though they were back in their own time, the spirit of discovery continued to burn brightly within them, fuelling a desire to one day return to the adventure and uncover what they had left behind in the storm.
