The trio followed the mysterious symbols, tracing the ancient carvings along the walls. The symbols – an eye, an ear, and a crane-bird – were emblems of vigilance used by the Knights on their watch-towers guarding the Grand Harbour. This path led them to a chamber that was tucked away, decorated with fine paintings by Caravaggio and Mattia Preti, a safe hiding place for historic treasures – La Valette’s sword and Napoleon’s laws that changed Malta – all these held in Cottonera!
